Multiplying Whole Numbers and Fractions

Fact!------->  Any whole number can be written as a fraction over the denominator “1”.

For example, “6” is the same thing as 6/1.



How to multiply a fraction by a whole number.

1. Change the whole number to a fraction.
2. Multiply the numerators and denominators straight across.
3. Simplify.



4/5 x 6

1. Change the whole number to a fraction. 

  • 4/5 x 6/1
2. Multiply the numerators and denominators straight across.
  • 4/5 x 6/1 = 24/5
3. Simplify.
  • 24/5 =  4  4/5
